Description:

The Invertig 221 AC/DC Inverter TIG Welder allows you to produce welds with all types of metals! We increased the maximum welding current by 10% to a full 220 amps of rugged welding power. We also put the machine on a diet—the Invertig 221 weighs in at only 54 lbs. so it's easy to take right to the job!

We packed the Invertig 221 with features many of our competitors don't even offer at twice the price! The Invertig 221 is the only welder in its class with independent AC amperage adjustment, which gives you precise control over the heat input to both the work piece and the tungsten by allowing you to separately adjust the electrode negative and the electrode positive amperage.

Conventional transformer TIG welders have a fixed AC frequency of 60 Hz (the same as your household current) and use a pure tungsten electrode which forms a ball when welding AC. The Invertig 221 offers you the ability to adjust the AC frequency from 20 Hz to 200 Hz—the higher AC frequency gives you a more focused arc with greater arc control. With an inverter, running a higher AC frequency, say in the 150 Hz to 200 Hz range, allows you to use Ceriated, Lanthanated, or Thoriated tungsten sharpened to a point, which:

1. Allows the arc to jump from a point instead of a ball, which provides unparalleled arc stability and reduces arc wandering.
2. Produces a more focused arc, which results in a narrower bead and makes it much easier to weld inside corners.
3. Minimizes the heat affected zone as the heat is more concentrated, which makes it easier for both the novice and professional to weld thin materials.

The Invertig 221 also gives you precise control over the AC balance (from 10 to 90%) so you can control the arc cleaning action.

Furthermore, the Invertig 221 makes an excellent DC welder. The smooth, stable arc coupled with the 221's high speed DC pulse makes intricate work on mild steel, stainless steel, Inconel, and titanium a breeze. High speed DC pulse focuses the DC arc much like the AC balance focuses the AC arc and results in more control and less arc wandering. With a pulse rate of up to 999 PPS, there isn't a job out there that the 221 can't handle.

Control of the arc is the foundation of better welds and precise results. With independent AC amperage adjustment, adjustable AC frequency, adjustable AC balance, and high speed DC pulse, the Invertig 221 gives you arc control like you never experienced before.

The Invertig 221 allows you to store up to 64 separate welding programs. Say you find a setting you really like for welding aluminum radiator tanks to cores—AC On, HF On, Max Current @ 180 amps, AC balance @ 65%, AC frequency @ 180 Hz, EP @ 60%, Pulse Frequency @ 1 Hz, Peak Time @ 80%, and Background Current @ 30%. Simply store the program and recall the program when you have another tank to core job. Assigning banks of memory slots to multiple welders allows the welders to access their personal settings in a job shop environment.

Conventional arc welding is simple with the Invertig 221. Using the Stick Mode in conjunction with the foot pedal allows you to vary the welding amperage. Perfect when doing pipe welding!

Select the touch start mode for welding aluminum or any other material without High Frequency. This is important if your application takes you near sensitive electronic equipment, such as on site repairs in a hospital or when repairing aluminum vehicles with on-board computers.

The advanced technology found in the Invertig 221 allows you to produce professional quality welds—quickly, easily, and affordable—with all types of metal. Every Invertig 221 comes with our 30-Day Money Back Guarantee. We are so sure you will love your Invertig 221 that you can try it in your own shop for 30 days. If for any reason you don't like it, we will take it back no questions asked. Further, we back the Invertig 221 with a 3-year warranty.

The standard Invertig 221 AC/DC single voltage (220V) air-cooled package includes the following items:

♦ Invertig 221 AC/DC Single Voltage (220V) Power Source
♦ 12.5' 17 Series Rigid Neck Air-Cooled TIG Torch*
♦ 12.5' Foot Pedal*
♦ Flowmeter
♦ Gas Hose

Seems to work fine. Hate the user interface.

Pros: 1. Compact size allows it to fit with a MIG and plasma cutter on a Harbor Freight cart. 2. Has a high quality feel, appears to be very well put together. A video by Matt Pratt shows the internal construction to be first rate. 3. The fan slows way down between welds. It runs very quietly. 4. Tons of advanced features, can weld just about anything. I'm sure I'll never outgrow this machine. 5. I like the digital setup system much better than a plethora of knobs which can only be approximately set. The user interface is a different matter (see below). 6. The memory function, where you can store up to 64 complete machine configurations, is very much appreciated. 7. The included torch, ground clamp and foot pedal appear to be high quality. 8. Enough power (for me). Cons: 1. The user interface. They've tried to force 10 lbs of features into a 5 lb box of buttons and LED display. The display itself is ridiculous frankly - 70's technology 7 segment LEDs just like the ones on an old KIM-1 toy computer. Displaying text on a 7 segment display is an old trick that was tried and abandoned decades ago, and for good reason. But here we are. Also there aren't enough buttons to access all the features of this machine, so sometimes you press, sometimes you double-press, sometimes you press-and-hold.... you get the idea. Not enough lights either, so some lights have a different meaning when steady ON vs blinking. And there's no indication on the panel what that blinking light is trying to tell you. You're going to have to keep the manual open while learning this machine, and 5 years out when you need to access a new feature you're unlikely to figure it out if you've lost the manual. So don't lose it. Keep a .pdf handy just in case. 2. Torch and ground electrical connections are nice quick-connect DINSE connections but the torch gas hookup requires a wrench. Weird... why bother with quick connects when you still need a tool? Why not just have a single wrench connection for both gas and electric a la Eastwood.... cheaper and no less convenient. I prefer to detach and store the torch and ground lead when the welder is not in use, but it's kind of a pain to un-wrench the gas every time. Not to mention the wear on the fitting, which probably isn't designed to be mated/unmated so often. I asked the seller (usaweld dot com) if there's a quick disconnect solution for the gas, and the answer is yes there is, though a bit messy (requires adapter hose + replacement DINSE connector). Price is probably less than $100, could have been part of the original design (without the need for an adapter hose) for even less than that. 3. The torch cable is bare, no protective sheath is included. I'm sure the bare cable is tough enough but it's braided fabric and will get dirty and probably worn over time. A sheath would have been appreciated. I'm pretty sure the cheap Chinese machines include a sheath, don't know why HTP can't. 4. Doesn't include a stinger for stick welding. Again, most of the cheap Chinese machines include a stinger, so it seems like HTP could have included one. 5. Paint color - these machines used to be gorgeous Italian red, they've switched to boring silver for some reason :-( Conclusion: I picked this machine over some more powerful but cheaper machines (Everlast for example) because of the compact size, high quality, and the excellent customer service (haven't needed customer service but I've read many good reports). I knew about the silly user interface going in so no regrets there. After having this machine for a while, would I buy it again? Definitely. I don't know of anything else with the features and quality construction for this price. And it welds very well. Don't hesitate to buy this, if your welding is within its capabilities you won't be disappointed

Top quality machine

I’m writing this as more of an “initial impressions” review as I don’t have much time on it yet, and this machine already has a “there for the long-haul” reputation that precedes it. The website made ordering the machine with the exact components I needed a breeze. It shipped in less than 24hrs and arrived very quickly. This 221 is replacing my home machine (overseas IGBT, but a fairly highly regarded brand). First impression while unboxing is that this machine exudes quality in every way. Ground clamp, power cord, overall fit/finish aspects of the whole machine are are not only impressive, but are a level above any of the “top branded” machines I’ve owned or used in the past. I had my reservations about the menu system from reading reviews buts is honestly so simple I was amazed. The led guided “map” they have on the front guides you through 90% of the settings anyways. I mainly pulse weld thin auto body steel for resto work and this thing has pulse options galore. I never complained of my previous machine’s arc as being harsh or coarse, but the smooth/soft/predictable arc on this 221 nearly brought a tear to my eye when I lit it up. The fan in this thing that ramps up only on demand should be an industry standard across the board. If you're on the fence like it was, just grab one and rest assured you made a wise choice.

Great machine!

The best TIG welder I've owned. Easy to use and a pleasure to work with. Much more stable arc than my last machine. Gives me more choices to consider when setting up a job. I recommend to anyone serious about TIG welding.
